"This happy result has not been brought about by acctdriit Thirty years ago the first tuberculosis Christmas seal in the United States was sold in Wilmington. Del. That little holiday sticker and the millions which have followed it have made possible the forma tion of thousands of tuberculosis associations and these associations have established the fact that health can be bought. "Tuberculosis is still one of the greatest of our health problems as it still takes an annual toll of 70,000 lives. We have enough scientific knowledge to bring this "white plague" under control if not to eradicate it. "To do this requires the educa- tion of many millions of peqple to do their jiart in ridding the country of tuberculosis. Such a program calls for money and this is one of the chief uses to which the income from the Christmas seal sale is user!." Today not many more than 50 die of the disease and the rate in Ore gon ls even lower." she said "Thirty years ago the estimated number of living persons in the country suffering from tubercu- 'osis was 1,500,000.
